It was certainly gratifying to see Richard Linklater‘s latest triumph Boyhood received a generous amount of attention and awards at the Golden Globes this year. A side effect of all this attention is that people have been refreshing themselves with a look back at the Linklater movie catalogue. The funny thing is that, when this many people start looking backward, a whole bunch of amusing bits and pieces start resurfacing. one such bit or piece is an audition video for Linklater classic Dazed and Confused starring none other than legendary man Matthew McConaughey.
While McConaughey has done a great job establishing himself as an accomplished actor over the last few years with Dallas Buyer’s Club, True Detective and Killer Joe, we can’t forget those good old days when he was just a young, bright, bumbling Texan with a hairdo full of dreams. So with that in mind, check out this old footage of a very young McConaughey, courtesy of the Criterion Collection:
What a delightful trip down memory lane that was. Undoubtedly the most surprising thing about this video is that Richard Linklater has seemingly not aged since this video was made. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more nostalgic tidbits like this turning up, because they’re a hell of a lot of fun; and who knows, they might convince McConaughey to bring the old ‘tache back.
Would you have hired McConaughey based on this audition?
