Weekend Roundup: 12th – 14th December

We like to cover as much news as possible here that interests you, but it’s unavoidable that little nuggets get missed here and there. Sometimes there’s too much to mention. Sometimes there’s not enough information to warrant an entire post. Sometimes I get tired. Sometimes a fourth thing happens.

Anyway, the Weekend Roundup is a means of keeping you updated on the weekend’s happenings without overwhelming you with multiple posts. This way you have time to enjoy your weekend outside, with trees and ducks and stuff.

So here are the important titbits that might come up in the coming week:

“The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” Breaks IMAX Record

The last in the Hobbit trilogy has had a fire-breathing debut weekend, taking in a whopping $117.6 Million across 15,000 screens in 37 different markets. The prequel finale also broke the IMAX record for a December release with $6.4 Million on 160 screens, breaking the record set by An Unexpected Journey‘s $5.03 Million. That’s a première-and-a-halfling! Right? Guys? Hello?

Changes to Name and Schedule of Universal’s “Skull Island”

The prequel to King Kong starring Tom Hiddleston will now be called Kong: Skull Island. The feature  from Legendary Pictures was originally scheduled for release on November 4th, 2016, however the release has been pushed back to March 10th, 2017.

Dwayne Johnson Describe What Kind of Character Black Adam Will Be

Despite a director not yet being attached to the project, Dwayne Johnson has already been able to give us a glimpse into the depiction of “anti-hero” Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam film. In Johnson’s own words, his character will be “ruthless” and “charming”. Sounds a little more complex than your common or garden comic villain.
