Sundance has been squeezing out an unbelievable layer of cinematic frosting this year, and it just keeps getting more delicious. One of the more anticipated and somewhat controversial projects doing the rounds is The End of the Tour, a movie adaptation of interviews between journalist David Lipsky and novelist David Foster Wallace.
The interviews were then compiled into the book Although of Course you End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip. For those unfamiliar with Wallace, he could very easily described as a legend in his own time. The interviews Lipsky did with Wallace took place not long after the publishing of Infinite Jest, Wallace’s most widely known and lauded tome. But this isn’t an article about Wallace’s work, it’s about a trailer for the adaptation.
The adaptation stars Jason Segel in a surprising role as Wallace and Jesse Eisenberg as Lipsky. Check it out, courtesy of Deadline:
I have to say I’m pretty excited about this movie. It’s directed James Ponsoldt who helped The Spectacular Now, and more than anything this looks to be a perfectly aimed catapult for Segel to get the actor in a more serious trajectory on which he could so clearly thrive. Expect The End of the Tour in theatres in July 31st.
