Will Second “Star Wars” Spinoff be a Boba Fett Origins Story?

It’s strange to think that the potential tag line for the upcoming Star Wars spin off Rogue One – an account of the spies who stoked the plans for the death star in episode IV could be “based on a thirty year old throw away line”. Now we have word about the focus of the second spin-off, and the tagline’s going to read more like “based on a be-helmeted badass”. That’s my pick for tagline anyway, I realise that they don’t usually open that sort of stuff up to the general public. I do think they should use my Rogue One line though.

That’s right, Screen Rant is reporting on news that the second Star Wars standalone feature will focus on legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett, cult star and all time fan favourite of Episodes V and VI. A smaller, more childlike version of Fett was also portrayed in Attack of the Clones by Daniel Logan.

So what can we expect? Well, this is allegedly going to be an Origins story, which sounds specific but is in fact categorically loose. We’ve already seen some of Fett’s childhood as the clone of Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. Presumably the next film will take place after that since everything beforehand is a bit test tubey. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot of the up and coming, relentless gun for hire as he makes a name for himself as one of the galaxy’s most formidable foes.

The as yet untitlted project has received a lot of spotlight heat recently following the departure of Josh Trank from the role of director. Rumours already about about the nature of his departure, with some claiming it was jot so much his decision as it was a decision made for him. So now the race is on to find someone new to direct, not to mention someone to play Fett. Given the clone back story we could very well be seeing Logan return as Fett, or even (actot) who played Jango since they’ll technically have to look identical. On the other hand, an entire film where Fett doesn’t take off his mask, Dredd style? I am all into that.

Rogue One will be finding it’s way to cinemas in December 2016, and the potential Fett Origin will appear two years later in 2018.
