Meet New Guardian of the Galaxy Pom Klementieff

Oldboy actor Pom Klementieff will head out into space in 2017 with the rest of the Guardians. But who exactly will she be playing?

James Gunn has a whole galaxy of characters to choose from in his upcoming sequel to the Marvel summer smash Guardians of the Galaxy. However, after mentioning he wanted to add two new faces to the Guardians roster, that’s since been dropped to one addition. So which character is going to join Starlord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Drax? We don’t know. But we now have a firm idea of the actor chosen to play them.

According to Screenrant.com, the news is that French Canadian actor Pom Klementieff will be joining the cast of Guardians Vol. 2. After doing on screen chemistry tests with the rest of the cast, Klementieff came out in top and will be the 6th member of the Galaxy-saving team unlikely heroes. Gunn had mentioned previously that he was keen to have two female team members for the second film, with Zoe Saldana‘s Gamora being the only woman on the team.

So who’s Pom Klementieff? You may not be familiar with a lot of her work, given that most of her projects have been French films. However, a few years ago she starred in Oldboy with Josh Brolin and got some decent panel exposure as a result. If you watched Oldboy, you’ll also know that Klementieff has a fair few martial arts scenes. Odds are that training will come in handy in the upcoming Marvel space-romp.

There’s nothing solid about which character Klementieff will be playing, there are suggestions that she could be playing a version of Moondragon, the daughter of Drax (Dave Bautista). The only support for this claim is that Vol. 2 will have a strong paternal theme, particularly for Chris Pratt’s character Peter Quill/Starlord.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be out May 5th 2017, so we’ve got a fair amount of time to find out more about Klementieff’s character and any other new additions to Gunn’s Galaxy.

Weekend Roundup: 19th-21st December 2014

We like to cover as much news as possible here that interests you, but it’s unavoidable that little nuggets get missed here and there. Sometimes there’s too much to mention. Sometimes there’s not enough information to warrant an entire post. Sometimes I get tired. Sometimes a fourth thing happens.

Anyway, the Weekend Roundup is a means of keeping you updated on the weekend’s happenings without overwhelming you with multiple posts. This way you have time to enjoy your weekend outside, with trees and ducks and stuff.

So here are the important titbits that might come up in the coming week:

Affleck and Brolin Stand Up for American Sniper
Source: Deadline

It’s been a surprising few weeks for Bradley Cooper. While he’s been on Broadway with Elephant Man, Award-magnet American Sniper has been entirely snubbed by the SAg and Golden Globe Awards. As if that weren’t mind-boggling enough, now fellow Oscar contenders Josh Brolin (Inherent Vice) and Ben Affleck (Daredevil 2…just kidding, Gone Girl) have spoken publicly in favour of Cooper’s performance and the importance of the story of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. It’s relatively unheard of for Oscar competitors to be rooting for one another this late in the game, so maybe the spirit of Christmas is still working miracles in Hollywood.

Official Set Image for Steven Spielberg’s Cold War Thriller

It’s hardly a surprise to see Steven Spielberg taking on a project that depicts an important moment in American history. Even less of a surprise is his reunion with collaborator Tom Hanks. But then who needs surprises when it’s all good news? Well now we have an exclusive image from the set of Spielberg’s untitled Cold War epic that sees Austin Stowell play Francis Gray Power, an American pilot who is shot down over Soviet airspace in a spy plane. Good thing he has Hanks to rely on as attorney James Donovan. The image is a little non-descript, but it all looks good. More news soon hopefully!

Sony and Robert Rodriguez Play with Fire and Ice
Source: Screenrant

Remember Fire and Ice? Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi’s animated fantasy feature from the 1980’s that combined traditional cell animation and rotoscoped live action footage? No? Well you’re about to. Sony is taking a wary step out of its front door and picking up Robert Rodriguez’s project, a live action reboot of the animated feature. This will be the first film that Rodriguez has directed in four years that isn’t a sequel, so it will be cool to see him working with some new material again. Well, not new, but you know what I mean. It’s a fairly epic fantasy storyline, taking place between the fortresses of Icepeak and Firekeep with the kidnapping of a princess by the evil Queen Julianna.

Exclusive Poster for Helen Mirren’s Woman in Gold

Helen Mirren and Nazis!? I’m in! This is an exclusive poster for Mirren’s latest project, in which she plays a woman who bravely plans to reclaim a Gustav Klimt painting that was stolen from her family by Nazis during World War 2…well when else would Nazis be operating? Mirren will be starring alongside Katie Holmes, Daniel Bruhl and Ryan Reynolds, who I can only hope is playing a wise-cracking SS officer. Any chance of that? Simon Curtis is directing and the Weinstein Co. is releasing the feature in 2015. Expect a trailer on Monday!

Horrifying Holiday Greetings from The Babadook
Source: Slashfilm

Let’s end the weekend on a creepy high! There’s been no end of amazingly eery extras following the success of The Babadook that has been steadily building since Sundance. Now we have a Christmas fable to add to the canon. The Christmas message is only 45 seconds long but has all those monochrome shivers that we’ve come to expect.

And that’s the weekend. See you all next week!

Watch Bradley Cooper in the Latest Trailer for “American Sniper”

Oh, I do love a Clint Eastwood project. Despite a mixed set reviews for this years Jersey Boys, it’s all smiles around here with the release of a new trailer for Eastwood’s latest project American Sniper. The project stars Bradley Cooper as Navy Seal Chris Kyle, who got something as a reputation as the most dangerous sniper in U.S. history. His memoir is the basis for the film, because it had all the facts and names and stuff in it so it would be silly not to use it right?

So here’s the trailer, from the good men and women at The Wrap:

It’s strange to think that the last military film Eastwood directed was Letters from Iwo Jima in 2006, and this looks to be a stunning return to form. Cooper looks to be putting himself aside and representing Kyle in a brutally honest way, as a man being pulled apart by love for his family, loyalty to his war and responsibility for his role. This film definitely has Best Actor potential as well as Best Director. Best Film? We’ll just have to wait and see.

The film also stars Sienna Miller as Kyle’s wife Taya Renae, Max Chalres, Luke Grimes and Kyle Gallner. Theatrical release is set for Christmas Day 2014.

Do you have American Sniper in your sights?
