Rumour Alert! Idris Elba Suspected to be “Star trek 3” Villain

If the latest Star Trek series has being boldly going where no one had gone before, it’s also boldly been going to England for talent. Benedict Cumberbatch made some phenomenal waves the last go around with his striking portrayal of Khan in Star Trek into Darkness, and now they might be bringing on another BBC darling for the as yet untitled Star Trek 3.

Screenrant reports that Luther and The Wire star Irish Elba may be in talks to star as the villain in the next movie. The rumour comes from Variety and has some other potentially delicious details for the latest Enterprise adventure: apparently shooting may be later than we anticipated, starting in June instead of May, and that the plot could involve klingons! If this is in any way true, we could be seeing Elba don a ridged forehead and dust off his old klingon dictionary (all actors have one, it’s great for monologues).

Of course this is all speculation, and we could be building to a Star Trek finale without a whiff of a klingon. This sort of rumour churning is easy with a project like Star Trek 3 that’s had such muddling and overhauling in terms of script and direction. With the departure of Roberto Orci from the helm and his relegation to producer, not to mention the hiring of Fast and Furious director Justin Lee to step into Orci’s shoes, the waters have been muddied and in low visibility rumours abound.

Orcs himself has alluded to ideas he had for a daring new plot for the Star Trek crew that may have been cast out. It would be an absolute treat to see Elba work his magic on the Star Trek set. He would be joining returning actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg and Alice Eve. Elba’s also no stranger to scifi adventures, earning his chops on Prometheus and Pacific Rim. But which film will Star Trek 3 be more like?

Trailer for Shakespearean adaptation “Anarchy” Drops Original Play’s Title

Here’s the problem with adapting a Shakespearean drama. You can bring in all the great actors you want, put it in the modern day, add as many wild and entertaining elements to get around the plot points, but at the end of the day if the audience isn’t interested in the actual story, then you’ve got a problem. With all the adaptations we’ve seen of the bard’s work, it’s a 50/50 toss-up as to whether or not it works out. The latest is a new take on Shakespeare’s Cymbeline, set in a Sons of Anarchy style American town filled with biker gangs and fire fights. Except it’s not called Cymbeline anymore – it’s called Anarchy. Why does that sound familiar?

It’s debatable whether or not the use of a lesser known Shakespearean play will work in the project’s favour, but considering that they’re already trying to move as far away from the source material as possible, this film’s definitely got a hard climb ahead.

Having said that, we now have a trailer from EW and it’s certainly got the grit, violence and Ed Harris-ness working in its favour…even if he is wearing a bizarre 70’s leather jacket. Have a look:

Anarchy stars Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, Anton Yelchin, John Leguizamo and Dakota Johnson. Director Michael Almereyda already has Hamlet under his belt so hopefully his treatment of the subject matter will pay off. Limited release will be on March 13th.

Will you be “fans of Anarchy”?
