Ready for another round? We get a better look at Batman and The Joker in Suicide Squad Trailer 3.
Things have been a little quiet from Suicide Squad of late. The last we heard the super-villain swat team was heading back into the studio for some reshoots. Rivalling sources suggested it was or wasn’t to make the film “lighter” to a) capitalise on the popularity of the zany “Bohemian Rhapsody” trailer and b) take a tall-building-leap from the gritty precedent set by Batman v Superman which is still seeing a lot of criticism. Whether that’s the case or not, we’ll have t wait until the film is out to see where it lands on the grit-o-meter. Until then, we’ve got Suicide Squad Trailer 3 to dissect. So let’s get to it.
It wouldn’t be hard to see Suicide Squad Trailer 3 and assume that the rumours about brightening up the film were true. Ballroom Blitz is playing in the background and only cuts out so we can hear some cheeky or silly lines from the squad. Never the less, it works really well and still manages to keep a sturdy diet of violence and action.
If there is anything to be learned from Batman v Superman, it’s that there is such a thing as too many trailers and too much information. The big Doomsday reveal was a crowd-pleaser when the trailer came out but it completely drained the big villain’s appearance in cinemas. The fact that we’re already on to Suicide Squad Trailer 3 means that more stuff needs to be shown off to keep it fresh. So among the additional dialogue between the characters and some fleshing out of the plot as standard, they had to show off the two things everyone wanted to see. More Joker, More Batman.
It’s a tricky line to walk. Some people have short memories and forget that seeing too much of a film’s substance in the trailer(s) means let to be surprised by when you enter the theatre. Fortunately Suicide Squad Trailer 3 manages to delve into Batman and Joker a little more without showing anything too significant. It’s still not clear how big of a role either character will have – although it’s fair to assume that Joker’s role will be much meatier.
So what do we get out of Suicide Squad trailer 3? Well we see the dark knight sporting an oxygen mask before diving into a river. He also seems to be a lot less muscular than Ben Affleck was in Batman v Superman. However if it’s a flashback then this would make a lot of sense. We also get a sneaky peak of the Batmobile in hot pursuit. As for Jared Leto‘s Joker, we get a little more dialogue and a lot of shots of him in a striking tuxedo making a dramatic escape. An escape from Batman perhaps? Who knows, but he’s clearly enjoying himself.
With the film hitting theatres this August, it wouldn’t be so bad if Suicide Squad Trailer 3 is the last trailer we see before the première. That being said, Warner Bros. is going to be paranoid about maintaining audience interest after Batman v Superman, so the odds are it won’t be.
Suicide Squad will be in theatres August 6th 2016. Watch this space for all the latest Suicide Squad movie news.
