We get a look at Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and the rest of the rebels take on ATAT’s and Death Troopers in the first official Rogue One trailer.
This is a big week for Disney. The Force Awakens is coming out for release on DVD and Blu Ray and Captain America: Civil War has begun screening for its world première. Not only that, advertising for Marvel’s Doctor Strange has already kicked off with a trailer still to come. But don’t worry about any of that right now because this is the only thing you have to worry about seeing today. That’s right, it’s the first official Star Wars Rogue One trailer.
Up until now we’ve seen nothing from the first Star Wars anthology movie. We knew it would chronicle the theft of the original Death Star plans and the rebels who pulled it off, and we’d seen a promo photo. But we hadn’t seen any of the rebels in action. That’s all change with the Rogue One trailer. It feels strange watching a Star Wars trailer only a few months after Force Awakens hit theatres and blew the roof off the planet. But since Rogue One has a December release date we’re more than happy to get an early peek.
The Rogue One trailer gives us a solid look at most of the major cast, including Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso and Genevieve O’Reilly as alliance leader Mon Mothma. We also get a good look at Ben Mendelsohn as ????, Forest Whitaker as ????, Diego Luna as ????, Jian Wen as ??? and of course Donnie Yen as ????.
Ok so we still don’t really know who anyone is, but we can take pretty good stabs at it. Mendelsohn is most certainly an Empire commander of some stripe. Luna, Wen and Yen are all the fresh faces of the new rebel alliance – which we already knew. Whitaker looks like he’s wearing one of the new Death Trooper outfits but its more likely that he’s another turncoat. Speaking of the Death Troopers, they’re also looking hella fine in this trailer. Obviously there’s still a lot of regular Storm Troopers hanging about, so it will be interesting to see what makes the Death Troopers so special other than their paint job.
There doesn’t seem to be hide nor hair of Mads Mikkelsen in the Rogue One trailer. Perhaps his character is too awesome to be let out of the box just yet, or perhaps his role in the film will give something crucial away. In any case, sorry we missed you Mads.
Felicity Jones is certainly following in Daisy Ridley‘s footsteps as a badass trooper-tackling female lead, and it looks like she has even more of a rebellious edge – which makes sense since she’s in the rebel alliance. All in all, there’s nothing about this trailer that doesn’t make us want to see Rogue One all the more. Here are some high res photos courtesy of Screen Rant:
