It’s weird when you realise that all that was missing from Chris Pratt’s already blossoming career was a stetson and a horse. See for yourself in the Magnificent Seven trailer. Read more after the jump.
Modern day westerns a funny thing. You can get totally unique takes on it like last year’s The Hateful Eight, or you get projects that tread old, worn ground until there’s nothing left to enjoy about the genre (sorry Ridiculous Six). So it’s a bit of moving target, which explains why there have only been two Hollywood westerns in the last 5 years. However, it looks as though Antoine Fuqua has the genre dead in his sights with his upcoming reboot of The Magnificent Seven. We got a look at some stills yesterday but now we’ve got a full blown trailer to sink our teeth into.
The most immediately appealing part of this trailer is the near-faultless cast. Denzel Washington has had a lot of quality roles working with Fuqua including Training Day and The Equalizer. Then you’ve got Vincent D’Onofrio and Chris Pratt who last shared the screen in Jurassic World. Hopefully D’Onofrio take more from his role as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil than his 2D stint in Jurassic World. Peter Sarsgaard, Ethan Hawke, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Ruflo and Martin Sensmeier round out the band of righteous gunmen nicely.
Aside from the cast, the film itself looks pretty solid. Fuqua has no trouble making good action movies great and it looks like he’s done it again with The Magnificent Seven. All of the cast look to be kicking some serious 19th century ass and Washington’s stoic charm lends perfectly to gun-toting revenge flick like this. However, something about the millionth cover of House of the Rising Sun and the predictable “how many are there” line in the trailer remind us that no reboot is a sure thing. Sill, our hopes are high with The Magnificent Seven. What did you think of the trailer?
