Alden Ehrenreich confirmed as new Han Solo

Young Han Solo Confirmed: Who the Fudge is Alden Ehrenreich?

Hail Caesar! Star Alden Ehrenreich has been officially cast as Han Solo in the Star Wars Anthology solo feature. But who is the fresh-faced bounty hunter?

When news first started spreading that one of the Star Wars anthology movies would be about a young Han Solo, people were super excited. But then people realised that someone else would be wearing the black leather cardigan other than Harrison Ford. It’s been an emotional roller coaster as actors like Miles Teller and Taron edgerton were tipped as being front runners for the role of the silver tongued bounty hunter. Today that ride came to an abrupt end as Alden Ehrenreich was officially named as the young Han Solo. But wait, who is this new addition to the Star Wars universe? What’s his track record? How do you pronounce his name? Not to worry, we’re here to clue you in on all that is Alden Ehrenreich. Did I spell that right? Yeah, I sure did.

At the tender age of 26, Ehrenreich is 9 years younger than Harrison Ford was when he first stepped onto the Millennium Falcon. The actor has been on the scene since 2005 and has been slowly and quietly making a name for himself. He received his feature film baptism from Francis Ford Coppola, working on Tetro and Twixt with Coppola back to back. Fun Fact: Coppola has directed both Han Solo’s, having directed Ford in Apocalypse Now.

Since Twixt, Ehrenreich has worked with more than his share of high profile director’s.  Woody Allen, Park Chan-Wook and The Coen Brothers are just a few of the names that spring to mind. The projects themselves have also been incredibly diverse. Between Blue Jasmine, Stoker and Hail Caesar!, Ehrenreich has a decent set if comedic and dramatic chops. That being said, a Han Solo feature is bound to be choc-full of action. Ehrenreich’s resume isn’t the most action-packed, so this could be a point against him.

You won’t have to wait until the Han Solo movie comes out in 2018 to see Alden Ehrenreich next. 2016 is already a busy for the actor, with a role in the upcoming untitled Warren Beatty project and a feature adaptation of the novel Yellow Birds.

Alden Ehrereich is going to be up against some serious push-back with die-hard fans who aren’t that crazy about a new actor playing Han Solo. Hopefully that won’t stop the actor doing justice to the character and adding another gem to the latest round of Star Wars movies.
