Iron Man and Captain America battle it out for superhero rights in the new Captain America: Civil War trailer. Whose side are you on?
Last year’s Ant-Man was technically the start of Marvel’s game-changing Phase Three. It performed well, but it didn’t get the phase off with a bang and sort of hung in the middle. So hopes went to the next the next film in the schedule, Captain America: Civil War. Of course we didn’t know anything abut the latest Cap adventure until yesterday. That’s right ladies and gentleman, the trailer has finally landed, courtesy of Deadline. Well, I mean, it landed yesterday. But let’s talk about it now like it just came out!
The two minute wonder made its debut on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and has been doing the rounds ever since.
The main question we wanted answered from this trailer was how the Civil War graphic novel storyline will tie in to the MCU. The comic book storyline is a famous one but it has a lot of moving parts. The trailer answers that question and simultaneously explains the Winter Soldier’s mysterious appearance at the end of Ant-Man.
Turns out the former villain will play a big part in Captain America’s resistance against mandated superhero registration, which splits the Marvel universe down the middle. And by the universe, I mean the eight or so Marvel heroes that make an appearance in this film. A conflicted Iron Man, War Machine and an even more conflicted Black Widow have to hunt down the rest of the Avengers who have followed Captain America on behalf of the government.
Also on the pro-government team is Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman. He has one or two shots in the trailer so be on the lookout for them in the showdown.
This hefty character sheet raises another question – is this going to be another Age of Ultron? Action-packed but more style than substance? Hopefully that won’t be the case. In its favour Civil War has the emotional charge running through it of friends turned into reluctant foes. Although watching Cap and Winter Soldier knock the stuffing out of Iron Man, it doesn’t look that reluctant.
Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Daniel Brühl, and William Hurt. It will hit theatres on May 6th. Watch this space for all the latest Captain America: Civil War movie news.
