80’s Homage Short “Kung Fury” Streaming Online for Free!

Hey, since we’re between Oscar seasons at the moment, why not get stuck into some good old fashioned guilty pleasures? No, I don’t mean that thing you do on the bus when no one’s looking. I’m talking classic 80s unorthodox crime battling nonsense. Sure, you could dust off your old copy of Last Action Hero or Cobra, or you could watch something a little different. Kung Fury is a short inspired by everything good and bad about 80s action, and it’s only gone and been released online for free!

Screen Rant is reporting that the project was begun by David Sandberg, who brought it to public attention through crowd-funding early last year. The short managed to attract $630,000 worth of support, and has now been made available to the public for some deliciously indulgent viewing. We have a link below so check it out, courtesy of YouTube:

“Here’s a summary of the project from the Kung Fury website:
The short film Kung Fury is a homage and a love letter to the 80’s from the director David Sandberg.

Miami Police Department detective and martial artist Kung Fury time travels from the 1980s to World War II to kill Adolf Hitler, a.k.a. “Kung Führer”, and revenge his friend’s death at the hands of the Nazi leader. An error in the time machine sends him further back to the Viking Age.”

If you haven’t watched it already, that’s reason enough right there. Sandberg, who directs and stars in Kung Fury, has gone to great lengths to make the film authentically dated, even going so far as to give the shots a film of VCR quality, fizzing out every now and again. And the icing on the cake? David Hasselhoff was hired to sing the them tune “The Survivor”. I’m gonna leave it at that and simply suggest that whatever job you have to go to pay your bills is not as important as watching this film. You know I’m right.
