2016 Annie Awards Inside Out

Inside Out Cleans Up at 2016 Annie Awards

Share

Pixar’s Inside Out wins hands down at the 2016 Annie Awards, nabbing 10 awards including Best Animated Feature.

The Best Animated Feature category of the Academy Awards is a funny one. It rarely seems like there are enough animated films made in a year to make for a solid list of nominees. Normally there are a good few gems in the mix, but then something “ok” like Despicable Me 2 gets thrown in the mix to wipe away some of the category’s lustre. No offense to Despicable Me 2, but it’s hard to argue that it was Oscar material. In any case, this year once again we have the 2016 Annie Awards to guide the way for Oscar greatness.

The Annie Awards has always been very shrewd at separating the cartoon wheat from the chaf. Over the last 14 years, the winner of Best Animated Feature at the Annie Awards has gone on to nab the Oscar or 9 occasions. They’re not always right, but it’s always a very educated guess. This year Inside Out made a killing at the 2016 Annie Awards after killing at the box office, taking best feature and best feature voice casting to name two. So, it’s fair to say that Inside Out pulled an absolute blinder this year, taking 10 2016 Annie Awards home. The Good Dinosaur also got to take home some metal for Animated Effects in an Animated Feature despite having a rough time of it at the box office. Also nice to see Age of Ultron getting a call back for Live Action Animated Effects. Character Animation in a Live Action went to The Revenant, showing the production wasn’t satisfied with taking home the Director’s Guild Award.

The only question left to answer is will Inside Out take its winning streak to the Oscar stage? All the songs are there, but the competition isn’t over just yet.
